S and I became good friends through the internet when I was in law school.  I was in Cleveland at the time and he was in Boston.  Eight years later, I was living in the MD/DC metro area and he came down to DC on a business trip.  We arranged to meet up for the first time in person after all these years and what do you know? Sparks flew all over the place.  Three years after that, I find myself in Boston and engaged to this wonderful man!

S proposed to me during my birthday weekend in May of 2009.  He took me to Cape Cod for the weekend and I had thought that that was all it was - a birthday getaway weekend.  He booked a cottage at the Chatham Bars Inn and both the cottage and the view were so gorgeous.  He surprised me with the proposal when we were taking a stroll on the beach right by the Inn.  The picture above is the picture I took right before he popped the question.

Since the engagement was a total surprise to me, S didn't get any input from me about what kind of ring I wanted.  He was armed only with the color of metal that I prefer (silver over gold), a piece of information that he picked up from being with me over the years, and my ring size, which he asked when I was browsing for a ring for myself (very sneaky).  He then went to a jewelry designer who's a close family friend for my ring.  Nancy taught him about the various levels of diamond quality and he got to hand pick the diamonds from a stash of diamonds and custom design the ring setting to the style that he thought would looke nice on my hand.  I have to say that he did a great job and I am quite proud of him!  I looove my ring!  It's so beautiful and it also means to much to me that he went through the effort to design the ring for me.  It is just the way I wanted it to be.  I will treasure it for life.
